Nicky POole

@yoginicky

I was born in Aotearoa (New Zealand), and have now settled in Tkaronto (Toronto) where I live with my two sons and my husband.

My embodied movement practice flows through the veins of the Prana Flow lineage created by Shiva Rea whom I have studied with since 2006.  I am also a reformer pilates teacher, and offer therapeutic sessions in Toronto. Further afield, I also study with the Axis Syllabus community in non-linear movement modalities, and continue my traditional studies in the indigenous martial art of Kerala I’ve been initiated into called Kalarippayat.

To better understand the current state of yogaland, my focus has shifted to the emerging academic field of yogic studies in recent years – specifically studying the tantric and medieval roots of yoga and the evolution of yoga in the 20th century. I completed the Yoga Studies Program (2019) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Asian Art with distinction (2022) at SOAS, University of London. Alongside this, I continue weekly classes in yoga textual reading, sanskrit and art history with my professors at Yogic Studies.

As an entrepreneur, I have owned two yoga studios: Breathing Room Yoga in Saigon, Vietnam, and Octopus Garden in Toronto. I currently work as a consultant for Core Essence, charged with the creative design behind leading wellness properties around the globe. I teach trainings and mentorships in yoga asana, yoga history and prenatal yoga. As the co-creator of Leelapod I warmly welcome you to my online home, and invite you to enjoy the library of over 300 classes from the comfort of your home. Please reach out if you would like to discuss working with me.
